carmine giovinazzo
Birthday: 08-24-73

Carmine Dominick Giovinazzo was born and raised in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island. He attended Port Richmond High School and Wagner College, and grew up an athlete, pretty much playing them all on the streets of Staten Island and most seriously baseball and roller hockey. His first career choice was professional baseball, but after three years of college baseball, he fell into acting after a serious back injury. As a kid, he always made short films. He was an extra in the Woody Allen movie, Radio Days, when he was 10, but remembers no particular time when he had the idea to start acting.

But after the injury he did several short films at NYU, SUNY and various independent films before he broke into the business. His family was very supportive; as they were happy he found another avenue for his talent after the disappointment of baseball.

In 1997 he made the move to Los Angeles and connected with a manager. Not long after, he successfully landed his very first audition in LA for the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" pilot. He even landed a sitcom on UPN called "Shasta McNasty." It only lasted for one season though. One of his more memorable acting experiences was a small part in the 2001 feature film "Black Hawk Down" where he spend three months in Africa filming. He also worked with Kevin Costner in the film "For The Love Of Game"

When getting the part on "CSI:NY" as Detective Danny Messer, he got help from his family on how to play the part. His father Dominick was a cop untill he got hurt on the job, his sister Alise is a cop, while his brother-in-law ,Will, is a detective as well.

In his sparetime Carmine likes to play roller hockey, basketball and baseball, which he still enjoys when he has the time. In August 2004 at the Annual Dodger Hollywood All-Star Game he was the only actor to smack a home run out of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Other than sports he also enjoys painting (some of which have been shown in galleries), poetry, writing songs and playing the guitar. Some of his favorite music is Iggy Pop, the Pixies, Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Black Flag, Henry Rollins, Nirvana and Mean Streets. Around 6 years ago he started working on The Brink of Black, a film he wrote about a group of friends from New York.
